A co-op hour without a plan vs a co-op hour with this

Without the curriculum
Hunting for a game the night before
Half the kids bored, half of them lost
Activities that need a kit you do not own
You step in and solve it for them
Nothing carries over to next week
Everyone goes home tired, and nothing really stuck.
vs
With the curriculum
Set up in 3 minutes
Every age has a real job
Supplies from the recycling bin
They figure it out, not you
Skills that build week to week
Everyone goes home sweaty, proud, and a little braver.

If any of this sounds familiar...

01You want your co-op hour to be the one the kids talk about all week. Real hands, real problems, no worksheets. But building thirty weeks of that from scratch is a mountain, so you keep pushing it to next semester and running the easy thing instead.
02You read The Anxious Generation and nodded through the whole book. Less screen time. More free play. Let them struggle a little. Then you closed it and had no idea what that actually looks like on a Tuesday morning at ten with fourteen kids in your living room.
03Your group has a four year old and a fifteen year old in the same room. Almost everything you find is written for one narrow age, so somebody is always bored and somebody is always lost, and you are the one splitting the difference.
04You have a folder full of saved team-building games. Half of them need a kit you do not own. None of them build on each other. So every week starts from zero and none of it adds up to anything by spring.
05The second something gets hard, every kid in the room turns and looks at you to fix it. You want to let them wrestle with it. But the room gets loud, someone starts crying, and stepping in feels like the only option you have.
06You have priced out enrichment classes to fill the gap. They run a few hundred dollars per child per semester, you would still be driving everybody across town, and it still would not be your group learning to work together.

...then this is for you!

Here is what changes when the whole year
is already written for you:

Thirty weeks to plan from scratch
The year is done. Open to session one, read the three minute setup out loud, hand out the cups and the string, and step back. Every session after that is already written and already in order.
A good book with no next step
The ideas you agreed with are built right into the plan. Kids get to struggle. Adults get to hush. The hour stays phone free on purpose. It is the argument turned into something you can actually run on a Tuesday.
One age served, everyone else ignored
Every challenge is written three ways: early learners, middle learners, and older learners. Same game, same table, different job. The teen learns to lead gently and the little one learns they are truly needed.
A folder of scattered games
Six units in a deliberate order. Cooperation first, then building, then talking and arguing well, then trust, then leading, then all of it at once. Each week stands on the one before it, so by spring it adds up.
You keep stepping in to fix it
You get the words to use instead. Count to twenty before you answer. Say "figure it out" warmly and often. Watch for hazards and leave the healthy risks alone. Then three written questions do the teaching at the end.
Hundreds of dollars per child
One file, one price, and a supply list of newspaper, tape, string, and paper cups. Print it for your whole co-op. Most of what you need is already sitting in your recycling bin.

How this curriculum came to exist

Hi, I am Kayla. I homeschool my own crew here in Texas and I help run our co-op, and for a long time our best hour of the week was the one where I planned the least and the kids built the most. This is that hour, written down thirty times.

Here is everything inside You Can Do Hard Things, Together:

One

Thirty Sessions in Six Units, Already in Order

You get thirty complete sessions grouped into six units: We Need Each Other, Build It Together, Talk It Out, Trust and Rely, Lead and Follow, and Put It All Together. The order is on purpose. Kids learn to cooperate before they are asked to trust, and to trust before they are asked to lead. Run two a month, or one a week for a school year.

The Full Year
Two

Every Single Challenge Written Three Ways

Each session has a version for early learners in pre-K through first grade, middle learners in roughly second through seventh, and older learners in eighth grade and up. Same game, same table, different job. The teen learns to lead gently. The six year old learns that they truly matter to the team.

Ages 4 to 18
Three

The Same Five Part Hour, Every Single Time

Huddle, warm-up, challenge, debrief, blessing. About forty five to sixty minutes from start to finish. After two weeks your group knows the rhythm and you barely have to explain anything. The teaching is capped at three minutes on purpose, because the doing is where the learning actually lives.

45 to 60 Minutes
Four

The Words to Say and the Questions to Ask

Every session comes with a short teaching, one verse, three debrief questions, and a one line blessing to close with. The debrief is where the growth gets named out loud, and it is written for you, so you are not inventing questions on the spot while eight kids stare at you and one of them is crying.

One Bin You Fill Once, and Nothing Else

There is a master materials list at the front: newspaper, tape, string, paper cups, index cards, pool noodles, balloons, blindfolds, and saved cardboard boxes. Cheap or free on purpose. There is also a short reading list if you want to go deeper, though every session here stands completely on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never led a class like this. Can I still run it?
+
Yes, and honestly it is easier than teaching a subject. You read a short teaching, you read a verse, you hand out the materials, and then your job is to be quiet and watch for anything unsafe. The hardest skill in the whole book is biting your tongue, and there is a full page of notes to help you do it. No experience with team building is needed anywhere.
Our co-op has a huge age range. Will this really work?
+
That is exactly what it was built for. Every challenge is written for early learners, middle learners, and older learners, so one game covers your whole room at once. Mixed teams are the goal, not a problem to solve. A team with a six year old and a fifteen year old is better for this work, because the teen learns to lead gently and the little one learns they are truly needed.
We tried team-building games before and it fizzled out. How is this different?
+
Most game lists are just a pile of unrelated activities. This is thirty sessions in a deliberate order, so each unit builds the skill the next unit needs. It also has the two pieces that usually get skipped: the same repeating five part hour, and a written debrief that names what just grew. That is the part that turns a fun game into something the kids carry into next week.
Do I need to read The Anxious Generation first?
+
No. The opening pages explain the two ideas the curriculum is built on, so you can start with session one the day you buy it. If you want to go deeper, the book is worth your time and there is a short reading list inside. This is an independent work and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Jonathan Haidt or his publisher.
What supplies do I have to buy?
+
Almost nothing. There is one master list at the front: newspaper, tape, string, paper cups, index cards, straws, pool noodles, balloons, blindfolds, and saved cardboard. Fill one tote and reuse it all year. A handful of sessions add one cheap item like a raw egg or a dollar store lock, and those are listed with the session. The low cost is the philosophy, not a shortcut.
How long is a session, and how often should we meet?
+
Each session runs about forty five to sixty minutes. Twice a month gives you thirty sessions across roughly fifteen months. Once a week gives you a full school year with room to repeat favorites, which kids always ask for. There is no wrong pace, and repeating a session is a good thing because the teamwork gets better every time.
How much faith content is in it?
+
Each session has one verse in the opening huddle and one short blessing line at the end, and the picture of the body of Christ from 1 Corinthians 12 runs quietly through the year. It is woven in, not bolted on, and it is light enough that a group with mixed families can read the verse or skip straight to the challenge. If you print for a group, please check the permissions of your Bible translation or use a public domain one.
Why is a whole year only $17?
+
Because co-op leaders are usually volunteers spending their own money, and a curriculum that sits in a cart does nobody any good. One purchase covers your family, your class, or your single co-op group, and you can print as many copies as you need for it. If you are running several groups or a whole school, reach out about an organization license.
